Overview: Effective communication is arguably one of the most difficult, yet most important skills a leader can possess. The goal in effective communication is to ensure alignment between the individual or group transmitting and those receiving to minimize the “what I said – what you understood” gap. This breakout session will focus on how to employ “precision communication” to eliminate these gaps in your day-to-day communication with your team and others, using an interactive exercise that uses the same principles fighter pilots rely on communicating with forces on the ground.

 Key Takeaways:

  • Recognize that the other person or party you are communicating with likely has a different perspective or viewpoint and how to establish a common operating picture, or shared understanding.

  • Learn the technique of employing the readback, where you confirm the most important elements of information shared in a conversation to minimize the “said-understood” gap.
